We don't write new laws. We activate the ones that exist.
From our base in the Netherlands, the Legal Alliance for Just Technologies is a European legal-intervention organisation focused on catastrophic risks from AI, biotechnology, and other emerging technologies. We do not write new laws. We activate the ones that already exist.

Capacity building for Research, enforcement & advocacy.
JUST uses research, enforcement & advocacy, and capacity building to turn legal instruments into concrete protections against technological risk. These are driven by our values that aim to promote responsible innovation, advance intergenerational justice and to strengthen societal justice. Where others lobby, we enforce. Where others publish, we build the legal capacity needed to act. Litigation is our last resort, not our first move. But it is always an option.

Research
Factual research. We map severe risks to fundamental rights, public health, and the environment, and identify practical mitigation strategies.
Legal research. We examine how current legal frameworks—such as human rights law, liability regimes, product safety, data protection, and biosecurity rules—apply to emerging technologies, and where enforcement gaps remain.
Enforcement & Advocacy
Policy engagement. We provide concrete, legally grounded options to policymakers, regulators, and industry for using existing law to manage technological risks.
Impact litigation. We identify and pursue cases and proceedings that can set precedents, clarify obligations, or compel enforcement when voluntary measures and policy processes fall short.
Capacity Building
Volunteer research coordination. We coordinate attorneys, law students, and legal professionals who want to apply their skills to catastrophic technological risk, directing their work toward concrete legal questions and interventions.
Education and training. We develop materials, workshops, and networks that help judges, regulators, in-house counsel, and public-interest lawyers understand how existing law can be used for technology safety.
Our values & focus Areas
JUST values the promoting responsible innovation, advancing intergenerational justice and strengthening societal capacity. In addition our work currently centres on three domains where rapid technological change meets high stakes for humanrights and security. These being: Artificial Intelligence, Biosecurity andbiosafety and European technological progress and security.
Promoting responsible innovation
Scientific research and emerging technologies can deliver immense benefits. With clear, enforced rules, those benefits do not need to come at the cost of catastrophic risk. We work to ensure the law supports responsible development instead of unchecked acceleration.

Advancing intergenerational justice
Decisions about AI and biotechnology taken in the coming years will shape the lives of current and future generations. We focus on legal tools that protect long-term human rights, safety, and planetary stability. Not just short-term interests.

Strengthening societal capacity
Well-prepared institutions manage risk better. We help courts, regulators, legal professionals, and civil society develop the knowledge, networks, and precedents they need to respond when new technologies cross critical lines.

Use existing law to address catastrophic technological risk.
We partner with lawyers, academics, and legal teams who want to put existing law to work on technology safety.
One of the strongest instruments we are not fully using.
Legal intervention is underused for technology safety. Your support helps ensure the legal system is ready before the crisis.
